The BIG Day Surgery

We arrived at the hospital at 5:30 in the morning on Tuesday. She had to get her MRI again so the surgery was delayed a little. MRI was done at 8:30 a.m. This took about 30 minutes. After the MRI since she was already knocked out they took her straight to surgery. We gave her kisses and parted ways. We were told the surgery should take about 5 to 6 hours. Watching her go was hard on both of us. We went into the waiting room and began our long wait. At 10:00 both surgeons came into the waiting room. Our hearts jumped. Why are they back so quick? Turns out it was nothing bad. They just wanted to let us know that they were going into the operating room to get ready to start. At 11:00 a.m. we get a call from the nurse in the O.R. and they are now officially starting the surgery. We got our next update at 3:30 p.m. from the nurse again. She said everything was going well, but would be a few more hours. At 5:30 Dr.Comair came out and told us Dr.Curry was finishing up. He said everything went well. They did have some problems with the equipment that monitors the brain before the surgery. That is why it took them so long to actually get started. He also said the tumor was bigger then they expected, but they were able to remove 99.9999% of it with no complications. Yea!!! Once they had her cleaned up we were able to go see her in recovery. She was very sleepy and out of it. The whole top of her head was wrapped in bandages. They then moved her to the ICU to monitor her. She slept most of the time while here, so far the Morphine keeps her pretty much out of it. She is responding well, she has movement in both arms and feet. Her right eye will open her left eye is swollen shut due to the surgery. She has not started to respond to our faces yet, but the Neurologist say this is normal and it may be a day or two before she will look at us instead of through us. Same for the swelling in the left eye it should start to go down in 3 to 4 days. The surgeons requested a another MRI for 12:30 today (8/26) just to make sure they got everything and also to double check for any other issues that may come up. Once the MRI is complete we are on the listed to be moved to the Neurological floor and out of ICU. Don't know when were moving, but as soon as a room is available we can get into more of a normal setting. The ICU is very strict. Only 2 people can be with her at a time. No cell phones and the worst part is we are not able to sleep in the same room as her. We must sleep out in the waiting room, so were not getting much sleep. Looking forward to getting a more private room. Will post another update tomorrow.
